The Studio

Studio 2131 is home to David Morris Photography. It's location in the heart of Kansas City's revitalized Crossroads Art District provides plenty of opportunity to immerse yourself in the local KC arts scene. Surrounded by historic architecture housing galleries, boutiques, and agencies and restored historic architecture, we're apparently not the only ones who have taken a shine to the city's thriving urban core. First Friday, a monthly one-night extravaganza, gives art galleries, specialty boutiques and restaurants in the District the opportunity to showcase their talents through open houses, receptions and special exhibits. Part of the energy of the area is the Crossroad's First Fridays, a monthly extravaganza where the art district comes alive as area shops and galleries hold receptions for their new exhibits. View a map with directions

While at the studio, you can relax in the lounge,  hang out at the kitchen bar or browse the work of national artists in the gallery. We love to eat out as much as the next guy, but sometimes there's nothing better than a (semi) home-cooked meal. Catering to our food clients' needs (and our own foodie proclivities), we included a fully-equipped commercial kitchen in the building's original renovation. With extra-large refrigerators and freezers, griddle tops, deep fryers, multiple ovens and TONS of counter space, we've found it's pretty easy (and satisfying) to whip up something fun instead of going out...and it's pretty handy for our food stylists, too.

We understand what it means to be working on the road (we do it all the time), so we've outfitted our studio to be more like a home than a workplace ... if your home is 3500 foot urban loft.

Staying connected to work is often not an option, so we have made several workstations available to our clients. We are wired with Google fiber and wireless capabilities throughout the building.

Shoots get long, work gets strenuous, and sometimes you just need a break; that's why we love our living room lounge. Watch the "can't miss it" big game, or crank the tunes through our 360-degree speakers. (Go ahead, we do.)

The studio features 16 foot ceilings ideal for multiple sets, storage and prop/set construction, and can be staged for natural or full blackout lighting conditions. Four large skylights and three 10x10 ft. front windows provide beautiful natural lighting capabilities or we can got to a full blackout studio. Our equipment ranges from 35mm to 11x14 cameras along with digital SLRs, digital large format backs and in-house digital retouching, scanning and proofing. For large-scale productions, we have access to nearby resources such as lighting and set construction crews, set construction crews, producers, location scouts, etc...
